Decorative Acorns

Why are acorns so darn cute? I've been painting them, covering them in velvet, and stuffing loose caps with colorful felted balls for some seasonal displays.

Leggy

Tables and chairs! That's the theme of this week's Spoonflower challenge. Funnily enough, I was so inspired by the prompt that I was floundering in my ideas. I was running out of time, thinking about how long it would take me to draw a bunch of full tables and chairs, and then this pared-down idea hit me. Leggy showcases my favourite part of furniture: the beautifully carved and turned legs.

Henri Le Sidaner's Tables

I clipped this picture out of a Victoria issue from the '90s. Smitten with the colors and intimist style, I checked out the artist, Henri Le Sidaner. Apparently he really liked painting tables, and, frankly, he makes them seem like the center of the most heavenly retreats. Here's just a few:
 La Nappe Rose
La Table, Automne, Gerberoy
 La Table D'Automne
La Table, Soleil dans les Feuilles
La Table aux Lanternes
La Table Bleue
Le Dejeuner

DIY Scalloped Series: Necklace

Materials:
Glue gun
Paint brush
Acrylic paint
Thin wooden semicircles (Note: I started with 4 circles and sawed them in half to get 8 semicircles)
Ribbon the thickness of the wooden semicircles (I used a length about 30 inches)
Step 1: Paint the wooden semicircles with your desired color or pattern.
As you can see, I gave mine a golden edge and painted one side mint green. When I want a more neutral necklace I can wear it with the wooden side showing to match my hair and skin.
Step 2: Center and hot glue the painted semicircles onto the ribbon to make a row of scallops.
The extra ribbon at the ends can be tied in a bow as the closure.
Ta-da!

Toulouse-Lautrec Impressionist Painting

This is an acrylic painting I made of the garden at Le Musée Toulouse-Lautrec in Albi, France. The castle is the home to over 1,000 works of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec's art.

DIY Scalloped Series: Collared Shirt

A polo shirt can be updated with this scalloped collar because the piqué frays minimally and holds its shape.
Materials:
Polo shirt
Matching thread
Sewing machine
Tape measure
Scissors
Pencil
Step 1: Measure the circumference of the collar to figure out how to divide it up into evenly sized scallops. I decided to mark my collar every 2 inches because it is about 18 inches long.
Step 2: After measuring and marking draw the scallops in with pencil.
Step 3: Snip along the scalloped line.
Step 4: Top stitch the edge and wear with joy!
