Martha Garden

This garden plan on the endpaper of Martha Stewart's Gardening Month by Month caught my eye while I was leafing through some gardening books. I adore this style of garden illustration--the angle of the perspective, the monochromatic details, and the script labels. It makes me want to wander through all these inviting greenery rooms--down the antique brick path, across the croquet lawn, and into the rose garden to forage a bouquet!

October Garden

I love gardens in October. The bees become dazed, and the twigs get crispy, but there are still a few defiantly peachy roses hidden in the brambles. Frost wilts the nasturtiums but makes the apples sweeter.

Billings Estate

Billings Estate a.k.a. Park Hill in Ottawa, Ontario, was built between 1827 and 1829 for for Braddish and Lamira Billings. The Estate was designated a National Historic Site in 1968 and became a museum in 1975. It has a cemetery on the property with graves dating to 1820.
This home is a great example of Georgian architecture for its landscaped lot, symmetry, wooden cladding, paired chimneys, dentil moulding, portico, dormer windows, and 5 bays of multi-paned windows with a centered door occupying the middle bay on both floors.
It is sensible and elegant.

Hedgie Collection

I have been wanting to make an English garden hedge collection of fabric designs for a long time, so when Spoonflower's Hedgehog challenge of the week came along I thought well why not combine the two? My Haircut for Hedgie design is up for voting in the challenge. Here's the rest of the Hedgie collection:

On the Porch

As a blend between the lush outdoors and comfortable indoors, the best porches are lounge-worthy spaces. I am so in love with these sturdy, ornate, dripping-with-flowers verandas on homes in Picton and Bloomfield, Ontario, because they are gorgeous examples of the kind of porch that invites summer lingering!

Kaleidoscope

My weekend consisted of eating rhubarb crisp and taking pictures of lush, vibrant flowers. There are such striking color combos in bloom right now!
