Apricot Lace

I found this pretty cotton dress at a thrift store, originally from Forever 21. Though it is contemporary, it has the perfect structure to be transformed into a gloriously Edwardian gown that would fit right into a Downton scene. I love the pale apricot fabric, mesh neckline, low square back, and lace details. It is a costume project in the works for whenever I next discover an outdoor tea or the like to attend! It shall be lengthened and embellished.

Luna

The past week I have been attacking my pile of sewing projects, and the completed pile is rapidly growing at a satisfying rate. It's a bunch of wardrobe maintenance--stray buttons, loose seams, and the like, mixed with refitting and reinventing of thrifted items. Luna, my mannequin, stands nearby as a sentinel of all things frilly and couture. Also yesterday I watched Coco Avant Chanel, so, you know, I'm living the couturière life! It's amazing what chic results can come about from hacking off a sleeve.

Old Lace

I love the intricacy of lace and doilies. They are elegant, ethereal, and versatile. They can be used as a myriad of embellishments...patches on jeans, sewed into a tablecloth, starched into a pendant fixture...the list goes on...

Ladies

In the words of Anne Frank, "Who would ever think that so much went on in the soul of a young girl?" Happy International Women's Day, ladies! Keep on using your God-given talents and making your marks in history!

Lace Denim

This old pair of jeans was sitting around and I decided to embellish them with some lace. Then I was trawling through the aisles at Value Village when this cotton lace cardigan caught my eye. It originally had big bell sleeves so I whacked them off and re-purposed them into embellishments for the denim. Voilà!

Scandinavian Princess

My Scandinavian Princess design is up for voting in Spoonflower's Needlepoint challenge. Psst! Thanks for the votes on my Maritime Yarn design--it came in 2nd place and is now available in my shop as fabric, wallpaper, gift wrap, cut-and-sew patterns, and homewares!

Tiddleybokken Bakery

Tiddleybokken is sneakily hoping that his friend Gingie (and the intricacy of Lace in Gingerbread) will distract from the fact that he ate all the Hershey's Kisses.

Reclaimed Jewellery Frame

My friend Meagan made this jewellery hanging piece from a frame she found on the road and a thrifted crocheted pillow cover. She painted the frame with a mix of Antibes Green and Louis Blue Chalk Paint, waxed it, and then used a staple gun to attach the lace. It could be used for displaying cards and such too! Isn't it lovely? Well, hint hint: Meagan will be starting up a furniture refinishing business soon...

Shabby Chic 3D Model

I made a half-inch scale shabby chic bedroom!
It started with hours of Pinterest surfing and leafing through Rachel Ashwell books.
Then I gathered scraps of fabric, paper, wood, and other such decorative tidbits.
I work very spontaneously on projects like this. For example, I was hurrying past a recycling bucket after sawing some trim for a window sill, noticed a shred of ripped corrugated cardboard out of the corner of my eye, thought, "Ooo, fluting!" and scooped it up in one fluid motion to go turn it into columns.
The walls and base are foam core with printed images of floral and mint planks as wallpaper and hardwood.
There is a doily rug and a rack of dresses. I made the rack using skewers, paint, and hot glue, and the dresses are lengths of ribbon glued to gold wire. The mannequin is a chunk of trim with a screw topped with a clay body and a rhinestone.
The headboard is a piece of foam core I embellished with paper clay and gold paint, and the footboard is a piece of trim I cut and painted. The mattress is foam core covered in fabric, lace, and velvet. All the pillows are stuffed with cotton balls. The mirror is from Michael's, the art is reduced printouts on cardboard (including these thrifted roses), and the drapes are actually remnants of an IKEA curtain.
The back of the chaise is a wooden cutout of wings. The little bust by the window is made of clay.
The armoire (or desk? or piano?) is a piece of molding with chopstick legs and clay and paint embellishments to match the headboard. Plaster roses make a good wall decoration. Little did I know, as a frustrated toddler, that the fabric roses I ripped off my shirts would end up in a model bouquet several years later.
I also gave the model a high tin tile ceiling with a chandelier made of seed beads, floral wire, plastic beads, and upholstery tacks.
It is a flickering battery-operated tea light so it makes the room look all cozy!

Quick Tip: DIY Lace Collar

I turned this yellow linen top into a lemony confection with just a bit of lace. Simply trimming the neckline of a shirt with the same circumference of lace gives it a pretty collar.

Sheer Loveliness

Oh, such delicate beauty! Here are some pictures I snapped at a vintage clothing show of a few vintage dresses that made me swoon.
The petal-like tiers and floral frills make this dress unique.
I love the scalloped neckline and lace.
Those pearl buttons are the perfect addition to this mint dress.
A jaunty yellow gown with a velvet bow and embroidered flowers.
The design on this bodice is so intricate!
This reminds me of ribbon candy.
Needless to say, I could drool over all of these detailed garments forever!
