Thoreau-ly Pumpkin

"I would rather sit on a pumpkin and have it all to myself, than be crowded on a velvet cushion."
--Henry David Thoreau
Ah, yes, Thoreau--I agree, but what about a pumpkin velvet chair all to yourself?
(I highly recommend Walden to hunker down and read in this cozy season and feel all kinds of waldeinsamkeit.)

Deco Table

I ordered my Deco Diamond design on linen cotton canvas and satin fabric to update this black powder-coated metal c-table magazine rack. The sling used to be a black faux leather, but I wanted to make it a little more interesting. The canvas is on the inside so it holds up to the books sitting in it and the satin on the outside to give it that black and gold gleam. I love the clean lines and airiness of the glass writing surface.

Knolling

This is one of those moments when I can ecstatically say that I have discovered a term to describe something I do all the time, in both surface pattern design and blog photography! According to this article, the above is an example of "knolling". I love that the concept of knolling was created by a janitor in a furniture shop. You go, Andrew Kromelow! It also happened to be the furniture store Canadian-born furniture designer Frank Gehry! He's the Wiggle Chair guy! More examples of this eye-catching organizational style here.

Mandy's

I went to Montréal (again) and fell in love...with this restaurant. Mandy's. I've never been in a restaurant that is as close to an embodiment of my own personal style as this place, both in terms of stunning décor and gourmet allergy-friendly food which is incredibly rare! It's like the creators crawled inside my brain and lounged on a sofa in there for a while, soaking up the details. It was like walking into my Creatively Graceful Boutique design realized as a restaurant, with a dash of tropical paradise thrown in for originality. Can I just point out that pink and gold semicircular channel back banquet?!
Sewing machine table, picket fence, sunlit patio
Crisp black paned doors, topiaries, black and white stripe scalloped awnings
 Chippy turquoise door, greenery
You can create your own salad! Delish choices! Well priced!
Black and white checkerboard floor, ornate ticking stripe chair
A ready-to-eat boutique section, complete with foodie décor items
Soaring ceilings, architectural fixtures
Can I just get the whole place to go, pretty please?
A bar of pure cheer
Thonet chairs, gold globe pendants, cane stools
Wildflowers, mason jars, marble bistro tables, gold flatware
Oh, it is! It IS!
I even stumbled upon a Mandy's truck dans le Vieux Port! A glossy pink beacon of bliss!

Chair-aphernalia

I found this sweet postcard of a little boy poised next to some furniture and swiftly adopted him, as well as this copper and wood chair block from a printing press, both from a local antique store. The chair on which they sit was made by my great-grandpa, who created scale repro Early American doll furniture as a lucrative hobby.

Tiddleybokken Toy Shop

Tiddleybokken, the mischievous Christmas elf, being oh so industrious in Santa's workshop. (I suppose he may have been inspired by the Leggy wallcovering to put his toes up for a bit!)

Christmas '48

My great-grandmother wrote this on the back of her desk. Note her teacherly penmanship! I absolutely adore finding little scribbles like this--it's insight into past lives, and past Christmases!

Découpaged Musical Stool

Here's the twin to my Franglais Stool--my Musical Stool!
I découpaged it with sheet music I saved from the trash at a book sale I volunteered at.

Delightfully Danish

My mom found this mid-century Danish chair at a thrift store for $5!
I love its wide seat, curved back, thin spindles, and tapered legs.

The patina is gorgeous.

It has its original spray coat of greyish white paint on its wooden form.

The bottom of the seat is stamped with this maker mark and features this instruction sticker in 3 languages.

Such a fun chair!

Willis Condo

I just finish this condo design!
Here is the concept statement:
This space is the perfect foil for the soul of an active individual devoted to corporate life. It provides a soothing backdrop for informal meetings, yoga, laptop work, and listening to records. A serene mood is achieved through elegant texture, rich hues, layered lighting, ancient accents, Asian touches, and original art, though it is not without punches of vivid colour to reflect the homeowner’s dynamic personality. Above all, authenticity is key: organic elements are paired with simple and ergonomic design, and natural imperfections are highlighted as works of beauty.
I made the base floor plan on AutoCAD and hand rendered the rest of the selections.
Here are my perspective drawings of the space.
