The Young Victoria

The Young Victoria is one of the most beautifully produced movies I have ever seen. The telling of the story is sweet and the settings and costumes are beyond elegant. 

It has inspired me to read Queen Victoria's journals (she was a prolific writer who averaged 2,500 words per day.) I have begun with this book, which is a selection of her writing.

I'm amazed at how the displays I toss together with no real thought are often the ones I like the best! Here I combined a thrifted scrap of red floral (it was sewn into a circle, presumably for a mini tree skirt) as a capelet with a vintage fur and a mint necklace on a painted hanger.

Land of Sweets

The costumes, music, and magical festivity of The Nutcracker Ballet leave me in jaw-dropped awe. My Land of Sweets fabric (which I struggled to narrow down my ideas for!) is in Spoonflower's Nutcracker challenge.

Vintage Find: '50s Christmas Apron

This is my great-grandmother's apron from the 1950s. It is pure Christmas fun so I cinched it around my mannequin for an amusing fashion statement!

3 Snowman-Inspired Décor Ideas

1. Fill a round glass vase with milkweed fluffs.

2. Frame doilies in progressively sized embroidery hoops and attach the hoops together with ribbon.

3. Tack a white paper lantern to the ceiling and hang a feather-stuffed ornament from it.

Mittens the Fiend

I love how childhood memories can provide such heart-warming inspiration. My Mittens the Fiend fabric, an illustration of the misadventures that led to adventures I had with my first stuffed cat, is in Spoonflower's Kittens in Mittens challenge of the week.

Bergères, richly upholstered armchairs, were first used in Paris during the Régence period from 1715 to 1723. It was a time of comfortably inviting furniture intended for personal social gatherings.
