Vogue 1922

Sneak peak! I found this dress and plan to alter it into flapper frock inspired by this June 1922 Vogue cover.

Sewing Patterns

Guess what? I don't know how to sew using a pattern. At least, I've yet to sew a project using one from start to finish without assistance...and quite frankly, I have no desire to! For whatever reason, instructions on how to be creative just don't fly in my brain. It's much easier for me to look at the final garment, and then start chopping up existing garments or fabric chunks and sewing them together, and seeing what happens. The results are usually pretty cool. So I have a nice collection of vintage sewing patterns, but admittedly it's more for inspiration and ephemera appreciation than for actual use! Though I do like to keep a variety around as a last resort sewing weapon in my back pocket, should my usual drape-and-stitch method flop, or demand precision.

Those Hours With You

Oh what a dreamer's delight! I found this sweet illustrated poem at Value Village for $1.99, bundled with 3 other tiny frames--bonus! The 1700s themed illustration, gilded details, and reflective verses thrill my soul. It looks like framed Maurine Hathaway prints were a popular piece of 1920s décor.

July Bulletin 2016

Vibrant and fruity inspiration (note: that watermelon above is a 19" tall sculpture entitled Melon Still Life, created by Franklin Gilliam in 1981 of granite and marble!)

Vintage Vogue Illustrations

March 1923.
There is something extra special about vintage Vogue illustrations. I would love to plaster them all over my walls. Artists like Helen Dryden, Harriet Meserole, and George Wolfe Plank were incredibly talented at creating these dreamy images of sartorial splendor!
 April 1919.
 June 1922.
 May 1924.
May 1939.
You can find the full archive of Vogue covers, starting with issues from 1916, here.
